Presidents' Day - Stock Market Closed
The stock market and all financial markets are closed along with banks in the United States for the celebration of President's Day.
Presidents' Day was created in 1880 to celebrate the birthday of the first President of the United States. George Washington is now uniformly honored on the third Monday in February, though his birthday is February 22. President Washington, a key founding father of the United States, gets his due honor, but the February 12 falling of President Lincoln's birthday inspired a movement to transform the holiday into one honoring both he and Washington at the same time. However, that effort failed in Congress. Still, the Presidents' Day holiday seems to be evolving into one that honors all of America's president's.
