Divergence & Disappointment for Investors

investors
Stocks diverged on Thursday after some high profile earnings reports in the tech sector dis- appointed, including Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT). That led the NASDAQ lower despite the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrials’ rise. On the economic front, mixed news was reported, but the important Leading Economic Indicators Index was unchanged and confirmed the worst of expectations for Q2 GDP. Jim Cramer called the data mixed, and it was. However, the numbers that mattered most were the worst of the bunch. I’m really speaking of one data point in particular for Thursday, the Leading Economic Indicators Index (LEI). It was unchanged in June, versus economists’ expectations for an increase of 0.3%. At this point, everyone should be expecting Q2 GDP issue, and contemplating what will unfold thereafter.
