Koran Burning

Koran burning
How do you feel about this Koran burning debate?

How bad of an idea is this Koran (Qur'an) burning nonsense? Pastor Terry Jones, an obscure pastor has become a global figure now, due to this International Burn a Koran Day he's called for on 9/11. What positive can come from inciting and incensing 1.57 billion Muslims, or one-fifth of the world population?

This large group of intensely religious people includes moderates, who will be disturbed by the news and who may harbor a mistrust of the Western world as a result. It includes militant fundamentalists, who will seek revenge in the form of murder, and who will inflict more suffering on the Christian minorities within their own countries. And, most importantly, it includes those in between, the borderline Muslims, who can be influenced by the actions of Western peoples and its leaders. And what example does this present Islam, and its Ameri-phobes, who view the US as a nation with imperialistic intentions?

If you are religious, you must understand that hatred begets only more hatred, and is the tool and intent of Satan. By sparking and nurturing a fire fueled by hatred, he can achieve a great end-game strategy, which only leads the righteous to unrighteous deeds in the name of God, destroys God's creation and leads souls to eternal damnation.

If you are not religious, you must agree that negative actions only give a pendulum of hatred the energy it needs to swing back and forth. Love is the only answer, and it can only exist in agreement with tolerance, patience and friendship. This should be understood by Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and atheists alike.

Americans should rise up in force against the Islamo-phobia that is spreading like a new virus strain. It starts with the argument against a World Trade Center mosque, and progresses to the burning of Korans, and ends in a holy war of global proportions. We need to draw a line here. Say no to Koran burning, and instead seek the unity of God's church through the unity of his peoples. Say no to this ignorant act that could not be by the suggestion of any angel except of the dark one.

What say you on:

Burning the Koran

this is a no-brainer question - that wacko pastor is an eccentric with 50 followers for crying out loud. how come none of the articles against this mention the fact that other Christians in Muslim countries will be targeted as a result? they only mention the troops. does the pastor not know this? well he's crazy, that we know. i like how Obama had to level with him by saying "listen to the good angels..."

burn the Korans!!

why are the muslins building a mosque on ground zero? why are they naming it after a spanish church that was conquered and remade into a mosque? they are rubbing our nose in the trade center burning of 9/11/2001. STAND UP FOR THE UNITES STATES OF AMERICA. I don't care if muslins get upset. I am upset over the trade center! I served in Vietnam and would be willing to fight the muslins directly over this! Yeah, burning the Koran is dumb just like building the Mosque at GZ is dumb. It pisses people off for no good reason.

But ya know what's dumber....the fact that this might incite Muslims to violence.

If there was an organized Bible burning by whatever fringe group it would be greeted with a collective yawn...."Someone's protesting; It must be Tuesday."

If the Muslim's want to be treated like grown-ups they need to learn to take these situations in stride. They can be angry and counter protest, but responding with violence is unacceptable.

A person can repudiate the burning of the Koran and at the same recognize Islam and Christianity are not "one church" under God.

SF,

I agree they are not one church under God, Islam and Christianity, but I believe God intended for one church. I believe it is his current intent to bring his people back to him. I do not believe Christians should give on important the basis of our faith, but instead win converts through the witness of our faith. We cannot do this by burning Qurans. We do this by loving and helping those who Satan would have us make our enemies.

Semserus,

Come on! This is serious. World wars have started by the actions of tiny nations, and this small man, likewise, incites a broad fire.

We can't just act on emotions that target a certain group within a group, without considering the impact on the entire group of Islam and on the world. Otherwise, we'll end up burning with the earth and wondering how it happened.

I look at this in two ways.

First, yes it is whacked. I mean, what ever happened to turning the other cheek, pastor?

Second, what is so whacked about it? I mean, the U.S. kills a couple of Afghan civilians and Muslims are up in arms threatening to kill us all but the Taliban sets fire to a school for girls and Muslims hardly bat an eye.

Muslims have burned the bible, decapitated victims, and committed other atrocities but let one Devil of a Western do something whacked like threatening their Koran and everyone is so scared of the possibilities. Well, chances are better than good that no matter what is done, that Muslims will commit more terrorist acts against the Western Devils.

Screw them and screw that pastor in Florida.

this is when we need the President to be Presidential.

remember, "never let a good crisis go to waste"; well send in the troops. show the rest of the world that while freedom of speach and expression are the basic tenants of our society; this is neither and won't be tolerated

That man is ridiculous, yes the terrorist attacked the trade centers in the name of the Muslim religion. But what about the man that kills his whole family and still goes to a Christian church on Sunday? A group of people do define whole nations. And to burn their holy book is just stupid, if you are angry at Muslims remember it was Al Qaeda who committed the terrorist acts not all Muslims. I don't necessarily agree with building a mosque on ground zero, maybe some where else, I doubt that we could put a christian church in Mecca. Then again I can see the intentions behind what Obama was trying do, and I applaud his intentions not the action. But if you find your self burning a Koran on Sept. 11 just ask yourself "What Would Jesus Do?"

I say, have one of ObamO's famous Beer Summit's and have the Pastor and the Imam sit with The One, an try to come to some sort of compromise on why it is insensitive to build a Mosque near Ground Zero and why it is insensitive to burn a Koran. I'm sure even ObamO can work out some sort of respectful compromise.

at the very least this guy's planned actions are seditious you might even argue treasonous.

The President needs to act Presidentially; order in the troops and shut this guy down

freedom of speach and expression are basic tenants of our society, the pastor's planned actions are neither

The news media should ignore this wacko "pastor" just like they ignore the daily killings and persecution of Christian in predominately Muslim countries around the world.

They are going to get us back some day and it will be a good one.

But that is what our Gov't wants so they can start another war to enrich International billionaires who control our country.

"I do not believe Christians should give on important the basis of our faith, but instead win converts through the witness of our faith. We cannot do this by burning Qurans. We do this by loving and helping those who Satan would have us make our enemies"

EXACTLY

Too much violence has already been perpetrated, against Christians, Muslims, Jews AND innocent bystanders, all in the name of "god"

Jesus, who IS God Incarnate said: "Love your enemies and bless those who curse you."

That is the appropriate Tenet underlying the Christian Faith

Does that mean governments will never wage wars? No. Is there no justice? Sure there's justice. But Mercy triumphs over Justice

Burning Korans doesn't solve any real problems.

Neither does building a mosque

Does anybody remember the Christian redneck whacko who bopmbed a building in oklahoma. Maybe all houses of Religion should be banned around ground zero and just leave the strip clubs. This is all the making of the Industrial/military/security consultants/legal/media and political complex which figures it can make a buck.Meanwhile our military who do the dirty work gets short thrift.

Afraid of starting a "Holy War" of global proportions? My friend, the recent actions of THAT Holy War began almost sixty years ago. This is just a continuation.

Normally I would agree that the burning the Koran is neither proper nor a good idea. All one has to do is look to the book burning rallies of the 1930's to see what a nation can become capable of doing. On that reason alone, I disagree with any book burning.

A nation that burns books is not far from burning people.

After listening to Rauf's threats against America and New York, it is eveident he himself is drawing "a line in the sand".

Enough is enough. He and his band of seditionists may yet trigger a reaction that is long overdue. Between them and our corrupt, P.C., hypocritical self hating and self loathing of their (largely) Christian, American and European heritages leaders and "ruling" elites, is it any wonder that a provocative reaction might occur?

Of course it is pathetic (cultural immaturity) that some Muslims take everything so personally as to attack Christians in their own homeland to retaliate for the actions of other Christians far, far away. We have *some* Muslims that are ignorant - and unfortunately they co-exist in a world with international TV and the internet - it's like giving a kid porn - they are too 'young' to handle it so they get all fkd up. These ignorant Muslims that would retaliate against Christians for the actions of one random pastor - DO NOT KNOW ANY BETTER. WE on the other hand have more knowledge and tolerance and the 'broader vision' - so yes, unfortunately we have to be careful. Just like when you sit beside a crazy man on the subway - you have to be careful to not aggravate him before you get off at the next stop. Emerson said "the responsibility of tolerance lies with he that has the greater vision". If you KNOW that certain actions will aggravate the immature - refrain. It's not being weak - its' about picking your battles and recognizing that in a globalized world - one has to take more things into consideration when one acts.

Touche' to you who say a Christian cannot do anything without uproar, and yet a cartoon can set some Muslims to seek murder. Muslims should think about this a bit, and contain the angry hypocrites among them. Faith in the Lord REQUIRES tolerance and wisdom, not reactionary, emotional responses. Or else don't bother! Our former Administration might also have taken heed of that advice.

But, I too am a hypocrite, because as my eyes burned and my throat opened on 9/11, while blistering my way home from Downtown Manhattan, I too called for revenge. Only new wisdom allows me to understand that faith is most pleasing to God, when circumstances make it most difficult. Yet I am not even sure I could follow through today. Just as we should not tempt God, I pray I am never tempted, because of the lion that lives in me.

It's much easier now from the seat of my pants to call for tolerance, than it must be for the innocent Quran reader whose family has become collateral damage. I was almost the collateral damage (or direct target) of 21 young Saudi fools, so I get it.

A cynic might say that a good way to burn a Koran is to place it in an American office tower or in the backpack of a Wall Street Journal reporter traversing Pakistan. Or what about a baby in the home of a Taliban seen from above by a lifeless machine. Or, what about a Palestinian child who just wishes he were born somewhere else.

The search for peace must begin on both ends or all points simultaneously, and will be an inevitably perilous quest. Yet, faith requires we make it. Or else don't even bother reading your books.

Our country was founded to escape religious persecution. I guess one can only escape the persecution if one is a W.A.S.P. Heaven forbid if one is "different" (read "wrong") in their religious beliefs.

I wasn't raised in any specific religion, but I always thought everyone worshipped the same entity... just by different names.

I've never understood killing in the name of religion -- that just doesn't seem to be living the Word, does it?
