Money is Seeking Safety and Unsure Where to Find it

dollar
There are several factors at play today for the stock market. Equity futures were higher in the early going, as capital appeared to be seeking safety in the U.S. on overseas concerns. The dollar was also gaining some ground, given upheaval in Brazil and a Bank of England decision and notation of slower growth expectations. The U.S. economic data slate is important, with the first Unemployment Claims data since last week's monthly jobs report. However, investors will likely be looking ahead and anticipating tomorrow's retail sales data more than anything. Oil should play importantly again today, with yesterday's bullish factor possibly fading in its punch a bit. Stocks want to recover from yesterday's pressures, but a meandering lower toward the close seems more likely into tomorrow's critical retail sales data.
