Good Friday Stock Market Closed
Besides Wall Street, many global financial markets are closed today for the Christian observance of Good Friday, including but not limited to the U.K., Brazil and Singapore. Some markets overseas have been closed since Thursday (Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela) and many will remain closed through Bright Monday.
In the US, the bond market is open until 12:00 PM, while Treasury futures stop trading by 11:15 AM. Stock index futures (minis only) trade until 9:15 AM. Banks are open for business, and the federal government even produced the monthly Employment Situation Report today.
The Christian observance of Good Friday is of great importance to the faithful. The hour of 3:00 PM marks the passing of Jesus Christ on the cross.
